Sanch take creations one step further

Over the past decade, Sanch has become synonymous with well-produced local music. The Curepe-based label is known for its pan, folk and jazz collections, which sell well not only locally, but across the world.

One of the attractions of a Sanch CD is the artwork on the inner sleeves. For at least the last five years, Ken Scott, commissioned by Sanch founder, Simeon Sandiford, has been the mastermind behind the art creations.

Many people have, over the years, expressed their desire to have large prints of these paintings to hang in their homes and businesses.

In an effort to please clients, Sandiford and Holder have issued limited editions of some of these paintings, which have been selling quickly. These prints can, however, prove to be out of the reach of the pockets of some.

Sandiford has, therefore, created a calendar that features six selected works from the Sanch catalogue.

Entitled the Pan in Art 2002 Calendar, its size 18 by 11 inches, this calendar is printed on high-quality gloss art paper and the paintings feature pan yard scenes as well as other images featuring the pan.

Sandiford wants the calendar to “create and heighten awareness of the national musical instrument of Trinidad and Tobago”. Of course, he also hopes it will promote the corresponding CDs in the Sanch catalogue. Among the six CDs featured on the calendar are Starlift’s I Wanna Hear Some Pan, Pan Jazz Improvisations, The Nostalgic Panyard and One Caribbean Voice.

The calendar was launched at the end of October 2001 and has been used by Scotiabank as a promotional product. Other companies are also seeking to include it in their Christmas promotional gift list.

Sandiford is marketing the calendar at a number of locations across Trinidad and Tobago [and Boston in the USA].

The intention is to have it available throughout the Carnival season, for tourists coming for the festival.

It is also being marketed internationally.

This is only one in a line of merchandising items now produced by Sanch. Also available are T-shirts, personalised CD openers and greeting cards featuring Scott’s art.
