One description of “Moon over Me” says that Aubrey Cummings “has taken the time to record all original songs from the Heart and Soul”. It cautions the reader that “you will travel a new experience as you listen through the different tracks offering some crafty lyrics and melody along with his talented acoustic guitar touch.” Indeed.
The promotional clips had tantalized me and so I was excited when the CD was finally in my hand. The first few minutes changed by behavior; I could not multitask while listening to this recording. The vocal phrasings give prosaic words such new significance. Most of the verses have few rhymes and that adds to the lyrical feel of the vocal delivery. When there was silence at the end of the twelve tracks, I was mesmerized by what I had heard and the brilliance of this creation: power, resonance, touching imagery, and honesty. The poetry speaks for itself and here some excerpts:
We Have It All
We have a world filled with flowers
And beautiful songs to sing
We’ve got miracles of nature
Like new born babies and the colours of spring
We’ve got dreams to live, love to give
And a God above whom we can call
It’s Real, It’s Life!
It’s real, it’s life!
With all its twists and turns
It’s real, it’s life!
And the lessons that we learn
There are many roads to take
We can choose to bend or break
Or we can be strong and weather
The pain and strife
It’s real, it’s life!
Sitting On Top Of the World
Every time you go away
My colours change to grey
You and you alone
Can make me feel the way I do
Like I am sitting on top of the world
As I Smell The Rain
As the rain pours outside
Beating against the window pane
It’s strange how memories
Are awakened
As I smell the rain
Just Ordinary People
You and I are cautious people
We’re always careful in what we do
We don’t take too many chances
Our disappointments are few
But for us nothing comes easy
We have to fight for our piece
Of the pie, ’cause you and I
Are just ordinary people, that why
My Heart’s Not Talking to Me
My head talks to me
But my heart is the one I listen to
And baby my heart’s not talking to me
You have tender loving ways
And a smile that makes my days
But I’m still not sure
If I’m in love with you
Awestruck, I press play again, from track one, and read the credits.
