A review of several simultaneous new additions to the eCaroh.com catalog in 2006, together articulated themes of social origins, identity and influence. The convergence of these elements evoked the reviewer’s designation: : Sounds of Oii – Origins, Identity, Influence. The convergence of these themes I now refer to as the sounds of Oii.
The concept of Oii and its elements were presented, by invitation, at the Guyana Folk Festival Symposium 2006, “Celebrating Our Caribbean Heritage, Carifesta ’72 Revisited.” The following year the Symposium’s daylong program was titled “Origins, Identity, and Influence – Oii”. eCaroh Caribbean Emporium presented “Oii Revisited: An Examination of Contemporary Lyrics.”
