Then, Now & Forever
Then, Now & Forever features the Calypso King of the World, The Mighty Sparrow and Dr. Hollis Liverpool (Chalkdust), in narration, paying tribute to Young Killer. Chalkdust, calypsonian, scholar and cultural historian, puts in context on eight separate tracks, each of Killer’s compositions. They are rendered by Sparrow, Crazy, George Victory, Brother Marvin, Designer, Nap Hepburn and Lady Venus.
Clarry Benn, Manager, Tropical Angel Harps Steel Orchestra reminds us that “Young Killer’s work epitomizes the noble traditions of the calypso art form. The mastery of this genius is expertly illustrated in this production. All lovers of calypso should take advantage of this rare opportunity to re-establish that nostalgic link with Trinidad and Tobago.”
Then, Now and Forever is noteworthy for two other important reasons. First, it demonstrates that amongst us are individuals who can give serious thought to the documentation and presentation of our cultural attributes. Clearly, Gil Figaro and Chalkdust set out to do the right thing, right.
Second, they used technology in an appropriate manner to make the production complement the intent of the tribute. High quality shows in every aspect and paraphrasing Crazy about a different set of skills: “This is how…” Everyone who listens to Then, Now and Forever will get a creative, post-graduate level lecture for the price of a CD. It is a pearl for the people.
