The Crooner – Guyanese Talent for the World Stage
Bill Newman uses the sobriquet The Crooner to cover the range of his artistry. He is from “GT” and is based in Toronto where he recently released “My Most Requested Songs.” But The Crooner is a true calypsonian and we at eCaroh Caribbean Emporium, especially our BourdaMarketPlace.com team, are proud to introduce this recording to you, and the world.
This CD is the only vocal we have reviewed from a Guyanese artiste in the last two years that has scored near the top of our overall quality scale. Eleven of the renditions are original, contemporary compositions by the singer and they are witty, articulate and delivered with appealing melodies and infectious beats. The calypsos are within the realm of the best: stories, humor, social commentary, and de rigueur – double entendre. The latter, however, does not degenerate to the obscene so common today.
The Crooner is a man proud of his heritage and is true to it. Listen to “Why I Sing Calypso” and one learns of his pedigree. His mentors must be proud too.
