Jeffrey “Sighting” Antoine Contemporary Gospelypso

Review

Clive Bradley is famous for his winning panorama arrangements used by large and major steelband orchestras in Trinidad & Tobago and New York. In “Contemporary Gospelypso”, he adapts familiar Christian songs to the indigenous calypso rhythm and arranges them for one pannist, Jeffrey Antoine.

Another dimension of this recording is the keyboard artistry of Mr. Bradley. While it is pronounced, it does not overwhelm Mr. Antoine’s pan work. Overall, then, “Contemporary Gospelypso” is a graceful presentation of calypso and pan in celebration of Christian faith. [eCaroh/Ron]
