Excerpt from the CD sleeve
Beginning life as the “Dead End Kids” in the early 1940’s the Witco Desperadoes Steel Orchestra stands today a proud icon of our indigenous music industry, overlooking the capital city of Port of Spain from atop the hills of Laventille.
In its over sixty year history, and under the guidance of such personages as Wilfred Harrison, George Yeates, the Legendary Rudolph Charles and later Beverly Griffith, Clive Bradley, Pat Bishop, Bertie Marshall, Lincoln Noel and Robert Greenidge, to name a few, the band became one of the finest steel orchestras in the world.
Its reputation for excellence was acclaimed far and wide and in 1992 the band was the recipient of the Chaconia Gold Medal for long and meritorious service in the sphere of culture, and were acclaimed “Band of the Century” by Pan Trinbago in 1999.
